Canoe the Middle River Derwent (Half Day)
This river joins Derwentwater to Bassenthwaite Lake in the Lake District. It is a great introduction to canoeing on rivers. The river offers few obstacles but has some nice shingle rapids and the odd tree hazard. The river passes through farmland with great views of the surrounding mountains making it a trip to remember. We start on Derwentwater where we get used to the canoes before entering the River Derwent. We even have time to stop for tea and cake at Nicol End Marina if you want. From there the river provides us with a great trip with fantastic views and the opportunity to stop from time to time to admire them. The trip ends just short of Bassenthwaite Lake with a short portage back to your car. So why not head down this great little gem and have an adventure?
This trip is aimed at people with experience of canoeing on flat water. For those with no previous experience we suggest you make a day of it and learn some skills on Derwentwater in the morning and then paddle the river in the afternoon.
