Wordsworth’s Grasmere Walk

This is a great way to see Grasmere and Rydal and the surrounding fells.  Start from Grasmere and pass through the village with views to places associated with William Wordsworth and his family.  Walk along the shore of Grasmere and up onto Loughrigg Terrace, passing Rydal cave and then down to Rydal Water. From there we cross the road and have  an option to stop at the cafe at Rydal Hall.  We pass Dora's field, Rydal Church and Rydal Mount with strong links to the Wordsworths and then return to Grasmere via the Coffin route which has fantastic views across Rydal Water and Grasmere to the fells.  Finally we pass Dove Cottage, where the Wordsworths first lived when they came to the valley and return to Grasmere village.  As a walk this is a good half day, but it could be extended to a full day out by having a walk round Grasmere village combined with a visit to one of the Wordsworths houses open to the public: Dove Cottage, Allan Bank or Rydal Mount.  Follow in the footsteps of the Wordsworths and explore the Grasmere and Rydal area  with a Blue Badge Guide!  Suitable for individuals, families and groups.  The walking is easy to moderate and the route can be varied depending on the aims and abilities of the group.  It is even possible to walk one way, visit an attraction and return by bus, or vice versa.  See the area and hear about it's past and present! A guided walking tour of the Grasmere area can be tailored to suit you!

Grade:

A route with some ascent and descent requiring a moderate level of fitness.
