High Atlas Mountain Adventure, Morocco (12 days)

Morocco is a fantastic country to visit. Experience the hustle and bustle of Marrakech’s souks to the mountains of the High Atlas Mountains. Stand on top of Jebel Toubkal, North Africa’s highest peak and then relax on a day’s camel trek along the coast and explore the seaside town of Essaouira.

Possible Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Morocco, where we meet our airport pick-up to take us to our accommodation.

Day 2: After breakfast we travel to the village of Aroumd, in the Atlas Mountains. A short walk takes us to our accommodation.

Day 3: Today we meet our local guide and go on an acclimatisation walk.

Day 4: We meet our mules and then start our walk to Jebel Toubkal base camp. We will camp outside the hut for a better night’s sleep but we will use the huts facilities.

Day 5: An acclimatisation walk takes us to a high mountain pass to allow us the best chance of reaching the summit of Jebel Toubkal tomorrow.

Day 6: An early start up the standard route of Jebel Toubkal will see us on the summit as the sun rises, giving us great views across the Atlas Mountains.

Day 7: Today we meet our mules and return to Aroumd where we can relax and unwind.

Day 8: Travel to Essaouira - an old sea-side town with golden sand and old streets full of shops. Explore the markets before relaxing and watching the sun set over the horizon.

Day 9: We spend the day on a camel trek exploring the local area and coastline, returning to Essaouira for the night.

Day 10: Enjoy the morning in Essaouira before returning to Marrakech in the afternoon. Spend the evening exploring the square and possibly sample one or two of the local dishes.

Day 11: Spend the day shopping and exploring Marrakech on your own. We will have a final evening celebration.

Day 12: Pick up and drop off at airport ready to return home.

A route with a reasonable amount of ascent and descent, requiring a good level of fitness and some previous summer hill walking experience.
